Our existence is fleeting, the moments of life are transient, and our emotions are multifaceted. Our reality is impermanent. We have a freedom to live reality to any degree in any manner and we have responsibility over only our own perspective. We can face really hard times, but the good thing is that struggle fades, and good times will come. And with that, the hard times will return. Life can be going well, yet we can still feel completely not okay. This is life, and it is not wrong. Coming to every occasion life has in store for us with calm gratitude will help us get through the bad times and create clarity when the good times fade away. This creates a knowing, an understanding, and an acceptance of this aspect of life. We can’t control reality, even if we try. However, we can always control ourselves—how we react, what we create, how we deal with turmoil, and how we choose to perceive and let life move us.
We must remind ourselves not to hold on too tightly to the good times—just soaking them in while they are present—and certainly not holding on too tightly to the painful times. We can let ourselves feel the pain but choose not to dwell in it, simply moving through it. We can choose to love and care, knowing that one day that which we deeply feel for may no longer be for us. We can choose to reminisce about the pain of losing something or the happiness it brought us to love something. We can feel extreme lows and reside in them, or we can let them be, reminding ourselves of the seasons of life. It is all about the perception we choose to create for ourselves.
A gratitude practice can create a peace of mind and acceptance like no other, reminding us of the blessings of life and our strength and resilience to overcome hard times—emotionally, mentally, and physically. Hurt and hard times are not bad; they just are. It is okay to be in pain, and it is not wrong to struggle.
Being intentional with our being and energy, harnessing our power and strength, and overcoming the fear of the inevitable, using our ability for self-control and discipline to rewire our subconscious reactions. Consciously creating a perspective to manage the ebb and flow of the human experience. Meditating on and bringing awareness back to the present, sitting in the stillness, softness, and actuality of our reality.
It is not a bad thing to let the mind wander, but it’s important to ensure that it affects us little physically or causes emotional stress. Detaching from thought, accepting the duality of our existence, and recognizing that, as much as we try to make sense of our reality in this form, on this planet, and in this illusion, we will never truly know— it seems to be an absurd and incomprehensible universe.
